CyBe Construction is proud to announce the completion of the first commercial building in the Southern Hemisphere featuring 3D printed concrete walls produced by their partner Qorox, using the CyBe RC (Robot Crawler) 3D printer of CyBe Construction. The building, located in Hamilton, New Zealand, is an early childhood center called Creators Forest Lake.
The textured concrete walls were printed in under five hours and installed in just two and a half days by only two people, making it a game-changer for the industry. The time-saving benefits of 3D printing were noticed by other trades on site, and the walls were finished months ahead of the more traditionally constructed areas.
Swelim added that Qorox’s top priority was creating a more sustainably sourced printing material, especially after the global pandemic negatively impacted the availability and speed of sourcing material from overseas. Qorox’s 3D printing technology can be used across projects of any size or quantity, from single-run planter boxes to large-scale stormwater collection systems.
Nick Lane, Commercial Captain at Qorox, explained that being able to build texture and curves into the wall design softened the look of the concrete walls, making it unique from other options. He added that Qorox’s plan is to see more builders using this technology for construction and the company is currently seeking expressions of interest from building companies interested in becoming regional partners to enable this.
